  5.       14.0  IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS

  8.             Although we have tried to take every precaution to make
  9.             Phoenix as easy to operate as possible, because it is
  10.             a complicated program with many options, some things
  11.             may not work right or at all the first time. Be sure to
  12.             read the section of the documentation that applies to
  13.             what you are having problems with, and double and triple
  14.             check the area you are having trouble with. We will list
  15.             three of the more common problems and the most common
  16.             answers. If you do not have one of these problems and
  17.             cannot find a solution, please contact your area host
  18.             or anyone in the 800 net to reach the GeneSys Project
  19.             directly. When you call, be sure to leave the following
  20.             information.
  21.                      1: make and model of computer along with
  22.                         speed if turbo.
  23.                      2: amount of ram
  24.                      3: make and model of modem
  25.                      4: make and model of hard disk (if disk related problem)
  26.                      5: your name and voice phone
  27.                         and best times to call along with your timezone

  29.                      Also, try to include a sample of the file you
  30.                      may be having trouble with, along with any
  31.                      critical.log that may be generated.

  33.             1q: "The batch file keeps cycling and the board never comes
  34.                 up. It says something about error F0".
  35.  
  36.             1a: Check your environment string to be sure its exactly
  37.                 right and be sure the batch file used to invoke Phoenix
  38.                 has a drive specifier on one line and the next has
  39.                 a cd \subdir. Be sure to leave a space between cd and \.
  40.                 This error is caused because Phoenix.com cannot find any
  41.                 of the other overlay program files.

  43.              2q: "The special text menu I created doesn't show!"
  44.              2a: There are only two reasons that can happen.
  45.                   1. MENU.SEC is not present or does not have the
  46.                      proper security level in it.
  47.                   2. The text menu file is not named properly or there is
  48.                      no .MNU file for that security level.
  49.  
  50.               3q: "My modem won't answer the phone"
  51.               3a: Re-read the modem section. You may have the wrong
  52.                   modem type in config or have not configured the
  53.                   modem correctly.
  54.                   0,1 modem types require that auto answer switch
  55.                       be set to NOT ANSWER THE PHONE or register S1 must be
  56.                       set to 0. To use this, your system MUST support
  57.                       the ring detect line.

  59.                   2,3 modem types require that auto answer switch
  60.                       MUST BE SET TO ANSWER THE PHONE or register S1 must
  61.                       be 1 or higher. We recommend 2 rings before answering
  62.                       because some computer's uarts are slow in responding.
